Firm Wins Jury Verdict in Favor of Local Businessman in federal court

September 2010

The firm’s attorneys obtained a jury verdict of $712,000 in favor of their client, a local businessman who sued to recover damages on a breach of contract claim. The case was tried to a jury in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama for two days. The claim involved a sharing of profits between the firm’s client and the defendant from a real estate venture in Baldwin County, Alabama. After the firm’s client put up half of the capital contributions and paid for half of the expenses, the defendant refused to share half of the profits from the venture with the firm’s client. The jury heard the evidence on the breach of contract claim and awarded the firm’s client all of the damages he sought from the defendant. Postjudgment, the firm obtained the award of pre-judgment interest and an award of sanctions against the defendant for his postjudgment filings.
